Suicidal thoughts.
Let’s allow that phrase to sit for a second. If many of us are honest, we likely have either had these thoughts or know someone who has had these thoughts.
What does it mean to have suicidal thoughts?
Beyond the standard google definition, these thoughts mean that you have experienced so much pain or trauma that you have lost the will to live. Let me reassure you that there is always a reason to live. First, please know that life is a spiritual warfare. Satan’s mission is to steal, kill, and destroy and to advance those purposes demonic spirits and influences come into our lives through our own willful sin or simply by way of being a child of God, with a purpose. However, God’s mission is life, abundantly.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that you may have life, and have it to the the full.”-John 10:10
God literally knows every hair on your head and you are here because he wanted you here. You are not your own, you are his. Do not fall to the lies of the enemy who whispers suicidal thoughts in your ear. Fight those thoughts that lead you to believe that you have nothing to live for. Suicidal thoughts are rooted in the lie that you are unworthy and your life has no purpose. I know because as a teenager, I had bad thoughts. I constantly felt uncovered and unprotected. But then, I looked in the mirror. My eyes were puffy and my face was swollen from crying. I was exhausted from searching my mind for reasons why I should continue to fight. I even felt like if I was no longer around, everyone would finally believe just how much pain I was going through. But I looked in the mirror, and I SAW myself. God said “No.”
Look in the mirror, you’re a child of God. Look at yourself, see yourself. You are worth every moment of life God has planned for you. Do not cut your life short to end temporary pain, do not cut your life short to prove a point, and do not cut your life short to find a way out. But smile, because there is always a way out. The temptation to end your life can not advance when you turn to your heavenly Father. The next time you feel that feeling, say “Jesus.” Just the name. There is so much power in the name, alone. But in your heart, also believe that he will subdue those thoughts.
“No temptation has overtaken you expect what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”-1 Corinthians 10:13
And we go through things in order to make us stronger and to serve a purpose in God’s Kingdom. You have to make it out of your suicidal thoughts so you can save someone else’s life. Your testimony will save lives. I hope mine does.
God makes no mistakes. If you would study the complexities of conception, pregnancy, and childbirth alone, you will appreciate how much of a blessing it is that you are even here today. Everyday that you rise from your bed, you are experiencing a once in a lifetime gift because no one day will ever be repeated. I look forward to seeing YOU.
“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.”-Psalm 118:17
