Funny how time flies. We all had an idea of what we wanted to be when we grew up. Some said a “doctor,” some said a “lawyer,” maybe a “teacher or business owner”…the list goes on. I encourage career goal setting, it’s healthy. However, as you grow more, you know more! Each day, as we better understand ourselves and life, its normal for that first grade career goal to melt away or morph into something different. Something tangible and real, in the present time.
Regardless of what you have decided to pursue or where you are in life now, I want you to know that there is always an opportunity to improve and reach your goals. The winter before I started law school, I was living in New York and I met a guy who shared with me that he always wanted to be an attorney. He hung his head and said, “but time has passed and it just isn’t going to work for me anymore.” I encouraged him, I told him it’s never too late. And if he really wanted it, he could make it happen.
Life can throw some curveballs. And then, time passes. You get things back on track and you still want the same things out of life, but you feel so beaten down that you refuse to pursue your goals. Sound familiar? As long as you’re living, you have the power to ACHIEVE anything you want. Don’t leave too many things undone. Finish what you started, even if it was only a “small” idea. And leave no stone unturned. I believe that life is meant to be lived and we are here for a God-given and God-directed purpose.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
No more time to put things off, you’re a grown up NOW! This life is meant to be lived so take the chance and actually do what you set out to do. It’s OK to dream, but it’s also OK to believe, affirm, and execute. Try it, you might surprise yourself!
